ESSENCE is a legendary magazine that was a mainstay in my childhood home. For their article on the rise of hair transplants among young Black men, The Hair Necessities, I created an editorial illustration inspired by traditional barbershop colors and motifs — the classic red, blue and white barber’s pole and shop poster — normalizing the use of cosmetic treatments as part of regular hair care.
